Why skin care is holistic & collaborative

The skin, the largest organ in the body, is a portal to understand organ and systemic diseases.

Your skin is a reflection of your interior health and observing it can provide valuable clues about what is occurring internally. The symptoms that present on your skin whether it is eczema, pimples, redness, peri oral dermatitis, inflammation, ageing etc is the body’s way of signalling that something needs to change. This could include your diet, sleep routine, stress levels and other lifestyle factors. The skin can also be a big indicator of hormonal imbalances, gut issues, autoimmune problems, high cholesterol, thyroid issues, infections and glucose issues.

We love collaborating and working closely with the team at House of Maxx as they understand the implications of diet, lifestyle choices and the gut skin link. The entire team at House of Maxx embodies a holistic approach to skin care. They utilize the best technology to identify the underlying issues in the skin and can tailor treatment to the individual.

This resonates with us as we treat no client the same. We tailor all products and use extensive testing to identify the underlying causes of skin abnormalities.

Clients first work extensively with Jenny,  the Health Coach at House of Maxx, then come to see us. The diet and lifestyle needs to be addressed before long term change can take place. This is because food particles enter the system daily and can aggravate or heal the skin. We acknowledge that diet and lifestyle changes can be a big adjustment and is challenging for many people. We find that clients who have worked with Jenny are confident in their food choices, feel supported and have a solid foundation. .

You may be thinking -If I have diet, lifestyle and skin care routine under control would I need to come see The Health Press?

Correcting the diet and lifestyle is an amazing first step. However, it can be much more complex than that and this is where we come in. Skin conditions can develop slowly and can be insidious in nature. Our job is to uncover the origin of your skin ailment. The biggest underlying issues can include hormonal imbalances, thyroid issues, nutritional mineral deficiencies, pathogenic factors such as bacteria, viruses, toxins or organs not functioning correctly. These issues can be complex and difficult to completely heal in some chronic or acute conditions just with food alone. With every patient we perform extensive gut testing. This is because the gut affects every other system in the body post birth. For healing to take place it is imperative to get the gut functioning optimally before we can heal other systems like the skin.

Herbal medicine and nutritional supplements are needed at this step. We tailor and adjust herbs to suit the individual and monitor the patient’s condition to correct the underlying issue.

We combine Naturopathy and Chinese Medicine in our approach to treatment. We have found through our own personal health journeys and experience with clients we can achieve the best results by doing this. As the skin is such a complex multifaceted organ we find that a blend Chinese Medicine and Naturopathy is needed to elicit long term results.

Chinese medicine is based on the principles that the body responds to the external environment, that the body innately knows how to heal itself, every part of your body is connected, this is a preventative medicine – meaning that we must listen to the signs and symptoms the body is providing and address and correct them. Chinese Medicine uses acupuncture, herbs, diet, lifestyle, gua sha, cupping, moxa to correct the imbalances in the body.

The basis of Naturopathy is based on the healing power of nature, treating the body as a whole, identifying the root cause, and prevention. Naturopathy uses herbal medicine, iridology, diet, lifestyle and pathology testing to identify the root cause of illness.

We have worked with patients who have had some of the most complex, chronic and troubling skin conditions. The support and care from House of Maxx is incredible. We choose to work alongside House of Maxx because we align with their holistic approach to health. They promote having the best skin as well as the best version of yourself which is something we value.

- Turn your phone to ‘Do Not Disturb’ 24/7. Unless you’re expecting to be urgently contacted, there is no need for the sounds of other people’s demands to interrupt our day.
- SET BOUNDARIES, a simple and kind way of doing this is by telling your friends and family what you want to hear about (example: actionable steps, petitions etc.) and what you can’t handle taking on right now (example: conspiracy theory videos, individuals opinions or predictions etc.)
- SPEND TIME OUTDOORS! We have been blessed some beautiful sunny days, get outdoors and feel that vitamin D absorb in your skin!
- Find what is meditation to you: dancing around your apartment, reading, quiet time, yoga/movement, guided meditations etc. #houseofmaxx
